A life-changing conversation
I once asked my grandmother why she chose to immigrate to Argentina. She told me there were two boats: one headed to New York, the other to Uruguay. Her uncle encouraged her to choose Uruguay, promising land and opportunity. That promise never came true—she ended up in Argentina instead.
That conversation stayed with me. I realized my ancestors may have simply taken the wrong boat. From that moment, I began to dream of continuing the journey they never finished. It took seven years of planning, resilience, and hope—but I made it. I brought our story full circle.
A life-changing investment
In 1990, shortly after becoming an architect, I received an unexpected $20,000 gift from my grandfather. While most advised me to invest in property, I saw a different opportunity. I used the funds to purchase two computers and a plotter—rare tools in Buenos Aires at the time—and launched my own architectural office.
Driven by curiosity and determination, I taught myself AutoCAD using manuals in both English and Spanish. My firm quickly became a pioneer in digital drafting, offering services that didn’t yet exist in the region. We helped fellow architects win design competitions by elevating the quality and precision of their presentations.
Our reach extended beyond architecture. We partnered with Telecom and Telefónica Consultants to draft thousands of kilometers of fiber optic infrastructure—supporting the expansion of Argentina’s digital connectivity during a critical time of growth.
That bold decision not only shaped my career—it proved the power of vision, timing, and trusting your instincts.
